The story behind Shelbybark
Shelbybark grew out of a simple idea: websites should serve the people who use them. Over the years we’ve worked with local businesses, churches, nonprofits, and media companies to build sites that fit how their teams actually work.
We bridge the gap between design and development — translating goals and ideas into clear content structures, thoughtful layouts, and code that can grow with you.
Values that guide our work
- Clarity over jargon We keep communication straightforward so you always know what’s happening and why.
- Right-sized solutions We recommend tools and platforms that fit your budget, team, and timeline.
- Long-term partnership We’re here for launch day and for years after, as your site and story evolve.
- Care for details From performance to accessibility, the small details add up to a better experience.
Who we serve
We work with organizations that need a steady, reliable web partner.
Many of our clients don’t have an in-house web team. They need someone they can email or call, who understands their site and can help with updates, new features, and technical decisions over time.

Principal designer & developer
Steven M. Crawford
Steven M. Crawford is the founder of Shelbybark (est. 2011) and has spent more than three decades working at the intersection of graphic design and the web. What began as a fascination with early computers, BMX and skateboard culture, and printed graphics has grown into a career that blends visual design, front-end craft, and backend development.
He enjoys working with clients in Tuscaloosa and across the U.S. to untangle content, clarify goals, and launch sites that feel honest to who they are. When he’s not building or improving websites, you’ll often find him spending time with family, making music, or serving in his local church.
